Education and Training

Arulchandru Special School is dedicated to empowering children with developmental disabilities by helping them develop essential life skills for independence and productivity.
The school is structured into five sections based on age groups:

-
Pre-Primary (5 to 8 years)
-
Primary (9 to 11 years)
-
Upper-Primary (12 to 14 years)
-
Secondary (15 to 16 years)
-
Vocational (16 to 18 years)

A Functional Skills Curriculum is used to assess each student’s strengths and needs. Based on this evaluation, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are designed and implemented to support their learning and growth.
Beyond academics, students participate in co-curricular activities that foster self-confidence and social skills. They also receive occupational therapy to enhance sensory integration and motor skills, as well as speech therapy to support communication development.
As they progress, students are guided toward vocational training, where their aptitudes and abilities are identified. The focus is on equipping them with practical skills that enable them to contribute meaningfully to their families and lead fulfilling lives.
Curriculum
Arulchandru Special School follows the DWDA curriculum of the Tamil Nadu State Government, designed to foster the holistic development of children while identifying and nurturing their unique abilities.

Each class is divided into groups based on students’ functional levels and chronological age to ensure effective learning. A comprehensive and structured curriculum has been developed for each group, combining one-on-one instruction with group activities to cater to individual learning needs. This personalized approach helps students progress at their own pace while fostering social interaction and collaboration.
